LearnHacking.io ("the site," "I," "me") is a personal blog that provides CTF walkthroughs and other cybersecurity learning and career advice. This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

Information you provide

If you sign up for a free account or newsletter, your email address and (if provided) name will be collected. This data is used only to send you site updates and newsletters and to manage your account. This information is not sold, rented, or shared with anyone for marketing.

If you email hello@learnhacking.io, I'll have whatever you include in your message, and I'll use it only to reply.

Information collected automatically

Google Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use it: which pages are visited, how long people stay, what device and browser they use, their approximate location (country or city level), and how they found the site. Google Analytics uses cookies (such as _ga) and similar technologies to do this. These reports are used to decide what to write and how to improve the site. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout), by blocking cookies in your browser, or by using a content blocker.

Hosting and platform. The site runs on Ghost, which may collect standard server logs such as IP addresses, browser type and request times to operate and secure the service. Newsletter emails are sent through Ghost's email provider, which may record whether an email was opened or a link clicked. Ghost's privacy policy: https://ghost.org/privacy/.

Affiliate links

Some posts contain affiliate links, including links to Hack The Box. If you click one and buy something, LearnHacking.io may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are marked where they appear. When you click one, the affiliate network (for Hack The Box, impact.com) and the merchant may set cookies on your device to track the referral. Those cookies are controlled by the respective sites and are covered by their privacy policies.

Third-party links

Posts link to other websites, like PortSwigger, OverTheWire and GitHub. LearnHacking.io is not responsible for how those sites handle your data.

How long data is kept

Account and newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask for it to be deleted. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months, as set in the site's Analytics settings.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link at the bottom of each email, or delete your account from the account portal. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email hello@learnhacking.io and I'll respond within 30 days.

Children

This site isn't directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU), and LearnHacking.io does not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes

If changes are made to this policy, the date at the top will be updated. Significant changes will be announced to subscribers.
